TO ALL THE KIDS WHO WERE BORN IN THE 1950′s, 60′ s, 70′s and early 80′s !!

I received this e-mail from a friend:

First, some of us   s urvived being born to mothers who did not have an OB-Gyne and drank San Miguel Beer while they carried us.

While pregnant, they took cold or cough medicine,  a te isaw, and didn’t worry about diabetes.

Then after all that trauma, our baby cribs were made of hard wood covered with lead-based paints, pati na yung walker natin, matigas na kahoy din at wala pang gulong.

We had no soft cushy cribs that play music, no disposable diapers (lampin lang), and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, no kneepads , sometimes wala pang preno yung bisikleta.

As children, we would ride in hot un-airconditioned buses with wooden seats (yung JD bus na pula), or cars with no airconditioning & no seat belts   (ngayon lahat may aircon na)

Riding on the back of a carabao  on a breezy summer day was considered a treat. (ngayon hindi na nakakakita ng kalabaw ang mga bata)

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle purchased from 711 ( minsan straight from the faucet or poso)

We shared one soft drink bottle with four of our friends, and NO ONE actually died from this. Or contacted hepatitis.

We ate rice with star margarine, ate raw eggs straight from the shell,  and drank softdrinks with real sugar in it (hindi coke zero), but we weren’t sick or overweight kasi nga……

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, and get back when the streetlights came on. Sarap mag patintero, tumbang preso , habulan at taguan.

No one was able to reach us all day ( di uso ang cellphone at walang beepers ) . And yes, we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our wooden trolleys (yung bearing ang gulong) or plywood slides out of scraps and then ride down the street , only to find out we forgot the brakes!  After hitting the sidewalk or falling into a canal (sewerage channel) a few times, we learned to solve the problem ourselves with our bare & dirty hands .

We did not have Playstations,PSP’s Nintendo’s, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 100 channels on cable, no DVD movies, no surround stereo, no IPOD’s,  no cell phones, no computers, no Internet, no chat rooms, no Friendster, no YouTube, no multiply………… WE HAD REAL FRIENDS and we went outside to actually talk and play with them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broken bones and teeth and there were no stupid lawsuits from these accidents
. The only rubbing we get is from our friends with the words..masakit ba ? pero pag galit yung kalaro mo,,,,ang sasabihin sa iyo..beh buti nga !

We played marbles (jolens) in the dirt , washed our hands just a little and ate dirty ice cream & fish balls. we were not afraid of getting germs in our stomachs.

We had to live with homemade guns ” gawa sa kahoy, tinali ng rubberband , sumpit , tirador at kung ano ano pa na puedeng makasakitan. .pero masaya pa rin ang lahat.

We made up games with sticks ( syatong ), and cans (tumbang preso )and although we were told they were dangerous, wala naman tayong binulag o napatay.paminsan minsan may nabubukulan lang.

We walked, rode bikes, or took tricycles to a friend’s house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just yelled for them to jump out the window!

Mini basketball teams
had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn’t pass had to learn to deal with the disappointment. Wala yang mga childhood depression at damaged self esteem ek-ek na yan. Ang pikon, talo.

Ang magulang ay nandoon lang para tignan kung ayos lang ang mga bata, hindi para makialam at makipag-away sa ibang parents.

That generation
of ours has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers, creative thinkers and successful professionals ever! They are the CEO’s, Engineers, Doctors and Military Generals of today.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had failure, success, and responsibility. We learned from our mistakes the hard way.

You might want to share this with others who’ve had the luck to grow up as real kids. We were lucky indeed.
And if you like, forward it to your kids too, so they will know how brave their parents were..

It kind of makes you wanna go out and climb a tree, doesn’t it?!

Can Live Without Cellphone, But Not Without Internet

This is just a continuation of what I have posted in my personal blogsite (www.durezadolina.com) about having a cellphone-less day.  .   .   .  .

I have mentioned that I can live and go somewhere without bringing with me my cellphone. That’s precisely true.  . .  But, I thought for a while, can I live without internet?  Hmmm, I guess, NOT!

www.durezadolina.com is back

I am brimming with so much joy to see in my e-mail inbox a message from the WordPress Administrator informing me that my first website , www.durezadolina.com, is now back. If you  recall, I posted around four months ago that my website was suspended or perhaps deleted and that suspension of my site was devastating and frustrating that I almost wanted to end my blogging activities. Whew, I am very excited to give my personal website a facelift. I’ll make it more exciting and better.

Cellphone Clues of Philandering Husbands

This is a collation of some of the wives’ tales of how their husbands managed to keep for long an illicit relationship with their paramours.  As usual and as expected, the wife is always the last person to know about his husband’s philandering activities, painful but true!

Illicit romantic relationships are easier developed nowadays than during the time Magellan. Gone are the days when the lovers would meet at the house of Maria at seven o’clock in the evening on Wednesdays and Fridays. With the advent of technological advances, illicit relationship is simply done in the web through e-mail or chat, and cellphone (through call or text message). Prohibited romance is easier concealed and, sometimes, easier discovered. Most often, the cheated wife’s source of information about his husband’s illegal activities comes from the latter’s own actions and gadgets, or should I say, the woman’s gut feel. Majority of the wives whom I talked with never confronted immediately their husbands when they heard or found out about the latter’s infidelity, they waited until they become armed with evidences to substantiate their accusation against their unfaithful husbands. As expected again, husbands attempted to deny everything even if the evidences were obvious, glaring and convincingly apparent.

How these husband’s adulterous activities were discovered by their wives were due to the former’s unnatural actions and irreverent behavior. If a wife is wary of their husbands to be two-timing – or perhaps ‘multi-timing’, then these cellfone signs might help her confirm, affirm or verify any illegal activities of his husband.

  1. His mobile phone is most of the time turned into SILENT mode. It is in the silent mode – but the vibrating key is turned on – when he is at home, but when he is at the office or somewhere else – not within his wife’s perimeter to be particular – it is the LOUD mode.
  2. The name registered in his mobile phone is usually named after his male boss. When the wife asks who called up or sent a message, the name of his superior appears.
  3. He goes to the comfort room most often or spends long hours in the rest room. When his cellfone vibrates, he immediately run to the comfort room to discreetly read the message or take the call. A wife noticed his husband’s frequent visit to the comfort room but never heard a single toilet bowl flush after using it. Every time she checks the water in the tank, it’s always full.
  4. He gets furious whenever you read his messages. It is not okay for him to read his messages but not vice versa.
  5. He becomes suspicious of you. He will always ask you who called up or who sent you the text message, or will ask “who’s cellphone number is this?”
  6. When you call him through his office landline telephone, he is either out of the office or on travel, but when you call him through his cellphone, he is ‘unreachable’ or ‘not obtainable’. When asked why his cellphone can’t be reached, he will say that he was just busy with lots of office work. When he has an out of town travel, he will not invite you to come. His reason? It’s an office-related activity. But, be cautious, his lover is allowed to follow him and it necessary follow that it’s he who shoulders all the expenses – airfare, accommodation, meals and miscellaneous.

blogging

A blog (an abridgment of the term web log) is a website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. “Blog” can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketchblog, videos (vlog), music (MP3 blog), audio (podcasting) are part of a wider network of social media. Micro-blogging is another type of blogging which consists of blogs with very short posts. As of December 2007, blog search engine Technorati was tracking more than 112 million blogs.[1]
